What Does the following abdominal CT Scan Indicate?
what does the following results mean? Thanks
CT abdomen: CT examination of the abdomen shows that the kidneys are normal in size and shape. There is a 3 mm calcified stone left proximal ureter with minimal proximal fullness of the left ureter and left collecting system as compared to the right. Fullness of the left collecting system and left ureter is new from March 27, 2015. A small calcified stone is unchanged in position. It is at the level of the L4 vertebral body.
No other ureteral calcification is identified. Small calcification right kidney is unchanged. This is nonobstructive.
There is no bowel obstruction or perforation. There is no ascites or loculated peritoneal fluid. Liver and spleen are grossly normal in size and shape as is the pancreas. Gallbladder is normal in size. Bile ducts are not dilated.
CT pelvis: CT examination of the pelvis shows no distal ureteral stone or ureteral dilatation. There is no free fluid. No evidence of acute colitis or acute diverticulitis. Appendix is normal in caliber.
Conclusion:
3 mm calcified stone left proximal ureter with minimal proximal dilatation.
Hello, thanks for sharing your report on HCM. Normal urinary drainage: Urine forms in the kidneys- comes out into the collecting system- enters ureter- reaches bladder.
The CT shows a small stone in the proximal or initial one-third of the left ureter. It is in the same position as earlier. But now it has blocked the urine from flowing freely, resulting in holdup of urine proximal to it. This is seen as fullness or dilatation on the scan.
The calcification in right kidney is nothing to worry about. Rest of the scan is unremarkable.
Some small stones causing obstruction may need a surgical procedure, while some pass into the bladder and come out during urination. Hope I have answered your query. Please write in again if you have any doubts. Take care.
CT scan findings suggests small (measures 3.0 mm)in proximal end of left ureter. This is causing back pressure changes in left kidney.Back pressure is evident by minimal proximal fullness of left ureter and left pelvi-calyceal system. You may need stone dissolving drugs. There are chances of spontaneous passage of ureteric calculus. You should drink plenty of water.
There is also small calcification in right kidney. It is non obstructing.
